We are often asked what age kids can start doing yoga at TLYH, and our answer is always "In the belly!" Once your baby is born we have a class for every stage of their baby, childhood and youth. Our postnatal & baby classes start at age 5 weeks and go to around 12 months. Once your little yogi is waddling they can move up to our pre-tot class. Once they are strong walkers they can join our parent & toddler class where repetition is key and listening & sharing are encouraged.
Below you will find a description of the classes we offer and which class is best for you and your baby! If you still aren't sure...not worries! In all of our postnatal and baby classes we focus on a different theme each week and our moms walk away with a take-home to use when they are not in class!
Postnatal Yoga w/ Infant (5 weeks- 6months)
This class is for new mammas looking for a peaceful place to relax, rejuvenate, strengthen, gather and connect with other moms while their babies rest on a soft blanket in a safe space. This 60 minute class will focus on strengthening the pelvic floor and abdominal muscles as well as other areas of the body (neck, shoulders, back) that now feel the tension of caring for a new baby.
Parent & Baby (5 weeks - Waddlers)
This class is for both baby and grown-up! We will spend part of the class stretching, breathing, and moving for you and the other part singing and moving playfully with your little yogis. This class has a wide age-range and as your babies become more mobile, it becomes slightly more difficult to practice without them! We have very low expectations in this class! Babies run the show and we follow their lead. Moms are encouraged to nurse, feed, change diapers, take a step away from the group or do whatever they need to do to feel comfortable in the space.
Pre-Tot Yoga Playgroup (12-18m)
This is a class for the "in between" stage! If your little yogi is not quite ready for the toddler class but too mobile for the baby class, this is the perfect class for the two of you! It is a nice mix of yoga and play for your little one. We provide a safe space for you and your tot to move, stretch, sing and play yoga!
Parent & Toddler Yoga (18m-3yrs)
This class is for toddlers and parents to enjoy the benefits of yoga together. This class gives parents the opportunity to see how their child interacts with other children and the teacher. Animated poses, music and props help toddlers develop good listening skills from the start!
*All of these ages are suggestions from our many years of experience. If your child is a strong walker but younger than 18m please speak with one of our yogi specialists as we can assess if your child can move up to toddlers.*
